While the Tall Ships fleet is berthed in Lerwick, there will be a number of changes to access arrangements to the town centre area to ensure the safety of all visitors, and the security of the event sites. Road closures will be implemented along Commercial Street and the Esplanade, with restricted access extending to Stewart Building, Church Road, and Commercial Road below Fort Charlotte. Event organisers have made arrangements for extensive public transport services to facilitate easy access to event sites. In addition to free Park and Ride and Shuttle Buses, there are late night service buses and ferries planned. See pages within this section for full details.
Taxi Rank
A taxi rank will be in place in front of Alexandra Building in the town centre. Local taxi services will be very busy during the event and you may experience delays in waiting for a car. Please be patient.
Disabled Parking
With traffic restrictions in place, provision has been made for additional disabled parking areas in Lerwick town centre. The area under Fort Charlotte and the parking on the south side of Church Road will be exclusively for Blue Badge holders only. At Holmsgarth, the back car park of the Co-op Supermarket is reserved for Blue Badge holders. We would strongly request other drivers to respect the allocation of these areas and not use these spaces.
