There are excellent transport links to Shetland with daily flights and a ferry service to and from the Scottish mainland.

There are several daily flights to and from Sumburgh Airport, situated around 26 miles south of Lerwick at the southern tip of the island.

The flight schedule is managed by Loganair and it takes around 1 hour from Aberdeen or 90 minutes from Glasgow, Edinburgh or Inverness. Inverness flights include a brief stop at Kirkwall in the Orkney Islands. Loganair also operates connecting flights to a number of other regional and major UK airports including London and Manchester. Direct flights from Shetland to Bergen are available in the summer months.

An overnight ferry operates every day between Aberdeen and Lerwick. This service is provided by Serco NorthLink Ferries and takes between 12 and 14 hours – earlier departures are scheduled on days when the ship stops at Orkney on the route.

Cabin accommodation is available, as are more economical options such as reclining seats or seating pods. The ships have bar, café, restaurant and cinema facilities for passengers.
