Sorlandet is the 3rd Norwegian ship to sign up for the 2023 Tall Ships event. Built in 1927, this Class A vessel has its homeport in Kristiansand. The name Sorlandet means southern land, after the area in Norway where the ship was built. With a white, steel hull measuring 56.70 metres of a total length of 64.20 metres (including the bowsprit), the ship's tonnage is 499. There are 27 sails spanning an area of 1240m2. The Sorlandet's High Protector is HRH Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway and the vessel is the oldest fully-rigged ship in operation. In 1933, Sorlandet became the first Norwegain training ship to sail across the Atlantic, in 1981 the ship became the first to offer sail training for women and in 1956 Sorlandet participated in the first international race for Tall Ships. The vessel can accommodate 72 trainees and 20 permanent crew and has taken part in numerous races and regattas over many years.
