Statsraad Lehmkuhl is a popular and regular visitor to Lerwick. The class A sail training ship was built in 1914, is registered in Norway and has Bergen as its home port.The 3 masted rigged Barque has a white, steel hull measuring 84.60 metres, total length including bowsprit is 97.2 metres, and weighs 1516 tons. The masts are over 40 metres high accommodating 22 sails, covering an area of 2026m2. The vessel can achieve speeds of 11 knots under engine power and up to 17 knots under sail. Statsraad Lehmkuhl has a well-established sail training programme which encourages trainees to learn and take part in all aspects of the ship's day to day running -150 trainees and 30 crew can be accommodated aboard the ship. The vessel has been a regular participant in the Tall Ships Races over many years.
